2014 Scholarship Luncheon will Celebrate Over $300,000 in Scholarship Awards

Donors and recipients of the R.L. Helmly Family Scholarship at the 2011 scholarship luncheon As Trident Technical College’s enrollment continues to grow, so does the demand for scholarship funding. The Trident Technical College Foundation has been working to keep pace with this demand, and in the last couple of years has gone from awarding $200,000 per academic year to over $300,000, thanks to the generosity of donors. One such scholarship is the McMillan Industrial/Engineering Technology Sch olarship.  This year, the new scholarship is assisting seven students studying Industrial or Engineering Technology.  TTC student Stephanie Lounsberry expresses her gratitude for this support in a thank you letter to the founders of the scholarship, Eddie and Karen McMillan:  “People say you know that you are in the right career when you don’t feel like you work a day in your life…this scholarship is allowing me to finish college and accomplish that dream.” Recipients sh

Vet Tech Program One of Only Three in the State

Accredited by the   American Veterinary Medical Association, TTC's Veterinary Technology program includes the study of animal breeds and husbandry, veterinary anatomy and physiology, animal nutrition, diseases and zoonosis, and small animal surgery.  Trident Tech's vet tech students get hands-on experiences with animals at the Berkeley Campus location's multi-use treatment center which has separate kennel space for dogs and cats, a simulated veterinarian's office and x-ray and research labs. The surgery area has cameras focused on the operating table and amphitheater-style seating behind glass so 26 people can watch and learn. Veterinary Technology students work with animals from local shelters, treating their illnesses and providing shots and treatments including spaying or neutering them.  The students also clean and groom the animals so they are more likely to be adopted when they return to the shelter. New Nursing Digs AND Foundation Scholarships a Win-Win for Student Shannon Baker

Many TTC students are happy to be attending classes in the new, high-tech, energy-efficient Nursing and Science Building, but nobody is more ecstatic than Shannon Baker. "I'm very excited about our new nursing building, particularly the simulation labs," says Shannon.  "Simulations offer us an opportunity to practice nursing skills and experience scenarios that we may not get a chance to encounter in the clinical setting before we graduate." Shannon enrolled at Trident Technical College to begin pursuing a nursing degree in January 2012. As a single parent, the decision to return to school was not an easy one, but she was determined to finish her education and knew that the hard work and sacrifice would pay off in the end. And so far it has.  Not only has Shannon maintained a 4.0 GPA, but she is now enrolled in the accelerated nursing program.  This means she will be able to provide a better life for her family a whole lot sooner . Her hard work

Trident Technical College celebrates opening of new Nursing and Science Building

Trident Technical College hosted a breakfast reception and tour of its new 90,000-square-foot Nursing and Science Building today, showcasing the high-tech, energy efficient building to more than 800 invited guests. The new building is located on the college’s Main Campus in North Charleston. Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties paid for the construction of the $30 million building, with each county providing a proportional share. Charleston County provided $18 million, Berkeley County $7.5 million, and Dorchester County $4.5 million. “In December 2010, we pitched this facility not just as a building but as an economic development project,” said TTC President Mary Thornley. “Today is not really about a building, it’s about jobs. Our message is affirmed in a recent study by the University of South Carolina projecting a shortage of 17,438 registered nurses in the state by 2030.”   Trident Tech is already the largest provider of nursing education in the Lowcountry,
