Everyone Was a Winner

What do you get when you combine sparkling beverages, posh prizes and endless rounds of Bingo?

Bubbles & Blingo of course!

On May 11, 2019, Trident Technical College Foundation and the Culinary Institute of Charleston hosted the inaugural Bubbles & Blingo fundraiser in support of Trident Technical College.

Guests were greeted with cotton candy-topped champagne as they made their way to a welcome reception featuring a photo booth equipped with hilarious props, resulting in some unforgettable photos. Some even arrived camera-ready with table themes like “Jolly Roger Pirates” and “Hot Tamales!”

As attendees entered the ballroom for the main event, they were treated to a mouthwatering brunch selection created and served by the faculty and students of CIC, including a chicken and waffle station, shrimp and grits cakes and Greek or Italian frittata omelets. Floral centerpieces adorned each table and were accompanied by a tower of delectable desserts.

TTC President, Dr. Mary Thornley, shared insight on the college and highlighted two of the many students who had volunteered their time to support this inaugural event. She shared the college’s vision as well as a few stories of inspiration.

The main event was hosted by Bobby Collins, TTC Foundation trustee, and Lisa Piccolo, vice president of Development and executive director of TTC Foundation, who led guests through nine games of Bingo full of daubing, laughing and even singing.

Bingo prizes donated by local retailers included jewelry, hotel overnights, luggage and prizes from TTC Welding, Esthetics, Horticulture and Film, and Media programs. Prizes were awarded to Bingo winners as well as guests sitting to the left and right of them.

One of the most exciting surprises of the afternoon was the table prizes. Each time the bell rang, Bobby Collins would call table numbers and award prizes to the eight attendees at that table. You would have thought we were giving away a million dollars by the excitement in the room when the bell rang!

Everyone was a winner and guests were beaming as they left with many already planning their theme for next year!

Tickets will go on sale in February, so be sure to save the date for this annual event on June 13, 2020. Learn More

New Laptop is a Game-Changer

When life throws you one challenge after another, you start to appreciate the small wins.  For Trident Tech student Kristi Salvo, receiving a new laptop through the Student Urgent Needs (SUN) fund was a game-changer.  Like students across the country, Salvo’s in-person classes were abruptly switched to an online format this spring due to COVID-19. But she knew her older computer couldn’t keep up with the online demands and she couldn't afford to buy a new one. “I was already dealing with a lot and it felt like this was going to be the thing that would break me,” she said. Salvo, a veteran of the US Air Force, struggles with health issues, including a back injury and a severe autoimmune disorder. In March, she and her husband separated, leaving her to juggle the responsibility of being a student, while also being a teacher to their two young children. All this, while trying to stay healthy and safe during a global pandemic. After Salvo and her children moved into a smaller, mor...

Virtual Desktop Infrastructure Becoming a Reality

Jimmy Bagwell, Chair, TTC Foundation Board  of Trustees, presents TTC President, Mary  Thornley with a check for VDI. After TTC Foundation raised more than $2 Million for the Technology and Equipment Fund during the Building Opportunity Campaign for Trident Technical College, Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) is becoming a reality. In fact, many students, faculty and staff are already using the technology. The campus-wide conversion to this transformational technology initiative will allow the college to realize more than $3 million in net savings over the next 10 years while furthering the college’s mission to provide more affordable, accessible educational opportunities for all students and faculty members, across all programs and campuses. VDI replaces individual desktop computers with a client/server cloud system. VDI, which pushes software applications from a central server to individual units, eliminates the need for costly desktop computers that req...
